With winter and the turn of a new year, it isn’t long before the awards season starts. Dreaming about the girls, the gowns and the guys starts early, but now that we’re getting close, let’s take a look at recreating the beauty of English rose, Lily James.
British born actress Lily James stole the show as Cinderella last year, but she sure knows how to rock a pretty special style even when she’s not playing a princess. Styling a super sleek look or wearing it wavy, Lily’s hair is hard not to covet. So, taking one of Lily’s most loved looks, the natural wave, we’re showing you how to get the Lily James look in just a few simple steps…
Step One: The Day Before
Achieving a natural looking wave is best done on day old hair. In order to get a great looking tousled effect in the morning, wash your hair the day or night before. This makes styling easier as the hair holds more texture once it’s been left to rest.
Step Two: Prepare the Hair
Before you start to style with heat, it’s always best to get the hair ready. This way, it’s likely to hold the style better. This is especially true on thin or fine hair. To prepare the hair, take a texturising product like Paul Mitchell’s Re-Works Texture Cream and work it into the hair once it’s been washed and leave it work.
Step Three: Start the Waves
Now, with your day old hair, it’s time to start the styling process. In order to achieve the very subtle and natural looking waves that Lily sports, you can choose either a wave wand or a curling iron. Taking a heat styler, like the BaByliss Ceramic Dial A Heat Tong, wrap large strands of hair (about 2-3 fingers thick) around the barrel. This will allow you to create the soft, natural look.
Step Four: Complete the Look
Once all of the hair has been styled, it’s time to set the look in place and finish the style. To hold the waves and make the style last all day, use a firm hold hairspray, such as TIGI’s Bed Head Masterpiece. By doing so, you’ll also be adding in a little more texture to the undone look.
Step Five: The Final Touch
Finally, play around with the style to make it perfect for you. Use your fingers to separate and tousle the waves, or if you prefer the smoother style like Lily’s, add a little serum, like the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum to the ends of the hair for a sleek finish.
