Summer Prep: streak-free self tanning

AUTHOR - DATE - 29/May/2015 / CATEGORY - 0 Comments
With Summer around the corner and the weather getting hotter, we’re after that gorgeous summer glow. Here are our top tips for the perfect streak-free self tan!
1. Prep the legs: if you need to shave or wax your legs, make sure you do so 24-48 hours before applying self-tan.
2. Exfoliate: the key to a perfect streak-free finish is prepping the skin before applying your self-tan. Exfoliate your skin to remove dry, dead skin to stop the streaks. Dry, flaky skin will soak up the tan which causes discoloration. Aim to exfoliate around 12-24 hours before applying your self-tan to achieve an even and flawless colour.

3. Moisturise: After exfoliating, hydrate your skin with a moisturiser. Both exfoliating and moisturising before your tan will help to prolong the colour and ensure it doesn’t cling to any dry skin. For a longer-lasting and smoother finish, your skin must be kept hydrated, so make sure you moisturise regularly after tanning too.

4. Avoid oil based products before tanning: make sure your exfoliating scrub and body moisturisers don’t contain oil. Oil will leave a greasy residue on the skin which can create a barrier between your skin and the self-tan as well as breaking up the colour, meaning you’ll be left with a streaky tan!
5. Blending is key: for those awkward places like ankles and where the bottom of your palm meets your wrists, rub a small amount of moisturiser to blend the tan and avoid streaky lines.
6. Avoid build up: if you start to get a build up of tan from regular self-tanning, try St Tropez Tan Build Up Remover Mitt  – this handy mitt effortlessly removes tan build up and you can also use it to correct any tanning mistakes or patches.

7. Don’t forget your face: To go with your bronzed legs, use a specific facial self-tan to give yourself an even and natural colour. Self-tan products for your face will contain ingredients that won’t clog your pores. Choose from lotion and oils, as well as various colours to suit your skin tone.
