Get the Look: Kate Upton

The beautiful Hollywood actress, and the face of Bobbi Brown, Kate Upton is well known for her glamorous locks and her gorgeous style.

Our guest blogger, Total Guide To‘s beauty editor Emily (follow Emily on Twitter), has put together a tutorial to create her classic vintage red carpet look, with loose waves, coral lips and softly smoky eyes.

Prepare the Base

Prepare your skin with your favourite moisturiser and primer before applying your foundation. I’ve used the lovely New CID I-Perfection Colour Adjust Foundation in Nougat. It’s a really lovely consistency and gives a light to medium coverage, which is perfect for achieving Kate’s glowing complexion.

I followed this with some light contouring, in a warm natural shade of bronzer, to give more definition and warmth to the overall base.

Highlighting

To highlight, I’ve used one of the wonderful iconic Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blushes. These offer a fantastic hint of colour and are extremely blendable. This particular shade works really well as a highlighter as well as a blush.

I then set the base with translucent powder – enough to ensure the makeup is set but not too matte.

Eyes

To achieve Kate’s softly shadowed but boldly lined eyes, I’ve used the New CID I-Shadow eye shadow Quad in Laguna. Using the lightest shade gently dust it across your lids. Next, using a medium shade, gently brush the shadow along the crease of your eyelid. This gives you more definition and is key for any evening look. The New CID shadows are soft and very pigmented so you don’t need to use much.

Using the darkest shade from your palette, and a smaller brush, line the edge of your eye. You can blend this out to the desired smoky level using a clean brush. Then using a black khol eyeliner, line the outer eye and fill in the water line. Finish the eye with a strong mascara to really define the lashes and complete the look. I finished Kate’s look with a hint of coral gloss.

Prepare the Hair

Spray L’Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Lumino Contrast Thermo Protective Spray onto towel dried hair and blow dry as normal. This lovely product is perfect to accentuate your highlights and to of course help protect your hair from any heat damage.

Curling

To achieve Kate’s curls, simply section the hair off using clips. Then, using either your tongs or straighteners, curl each section. I always use my GHDs as they give a lovely curl that lasts.
Make sure you curl in the same direction – this way you’ll achieve a more vintage style curl. When the whole of the hair has been curled, leave it to cool down.

To make the curls less tight and more vintage, tease them out and soften the ringlets. I’ve used a Tangle Teezer as it’s gentle on the hair and causes next to no damage.

Finally apply a good spritz of a gloss hair spray. I’ve used Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine Super Spray as it really gives a lovely hold and adds a fabulous glossy shine (it also smells divine!).
