Roots can look gorgeous when done right (hello ombre), but for those of us who are simply just in between salon visits they can become a little unsightly! The next time you’re waiting for your hair appointment, try these 4 quick tricks to hide your roots:
Add Volume
The best trick for hiding your roots is to add volume. The more you can get your hair off your scalp, the better. When you have more lift at the roots, the colour difference between the roots and the rest of your hair is harder to see because it disguises that harsh line. So next time, add volume and rough it up!
Favourite product? Tigi Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost Spray – the fine mist foam gives lift to your roots, adding volume and texture. For an extra boost, spray Sexy Hair Flip it Over on dry hair to give extra texture and fullness.
Dry shampoo
Especially true for blondes, oily hair can make roots look worse. For those in between days, spray a little dry shampoo on the roots to get rid of any excess oil. Even if your hair is freshly washed, the powder in dry shampoo can still help my making the roots ever so slightly lighter! It can also help create extra body too to help disguise the roots.
Favourite product? Tigi Bed Head Rockaholic Dry Shampoo will absorb the excess oil and add texture.
Change your parting
Do you often wear your hair in the same parting every day? The area where you usually part can naturally become quite flat, which makes the roots ever more obvious. When you’re in between colours, flip it over to the other side and create a parting on the opposite side to where you would usually have it – your hair will have more volume here. You can even try a messy parting where the parting isn’t defined. This is ideal for hiding the colour line!
Play with styles
Slicked back hair styles will show everything, so opt for hairstyles that will hide the roots. Curls, braids, ponytails and top knots are all great styles for helping to disguise roots. Braids will draw attention to the style and away from the roots while curls will help create volume. Give hair extra texture to create a rough, messy look.
Favourite product? Sebastian Texture Maker is ideal for creating matte texture and can be used on both wet and dry hair. Use a large barreled curling wand like the Babyliss Pro Titanium Expression Waving Wand to get loose waves.
