Hat Hair Prevention

AUTHOR - DATE - 7/Dec/2014 / CATEGORY - 0 Comments

We’ve had a lot of questions recently about how to deal with the dreaded hat hair. Wrapping up in winter hats can turn our hair into a flat, limp mess, not to mention the frizz and flyaways! So we’ve put together our top tips and favourite products to help you fight against hat hair this season.

Keep your locks nourished. Use a rich mask every week that will nourish your hair and keep it moisturised and smooth. Our favourite is Redken Real Control Intense Renewal – it detangles and helps to protect against breakage to care for unruly, dry hair.

Prep your hair with a moisturising shampoo and smoothing conditioner. Use a shampoo aimed at dry and fragile hair and a conditioner that has a smoothing formula to seal in moisture and reduce frizz. We love Tigi S Factor Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner.

Make sure your hair is completely dry before putting on a hat because dampness is what will cause your hair to become flat when you take off your hat!

Add a leave in conditioner into your routine. In winter our hair becomes dry with central heating and extra styling with the hair dryer. A leave in conditioner will help keep the ends of your hair nourished and less tangled. Only apply to the tips of strands so that you don’t weigh down the hair at the roots. Try Clynol Moisture Dream Conditioner for lasting hydration and glossy manageability.

Use a volumizing dry shampoo on the roots just before you put on your hat. When you take your hat off, run your fingers through your roots to create volume again. For this we love Tigi Bed Head Oh Bee Hive matte dry shampoo. Not only will it refresh the hair, but it creates a little volume that you need after wearing a hat. Using a dry shampoo means it’s fine to leave on the roots until you reach your destination rather than using a fast drying volumizing spray.

Flyaways are one of the most annoying problems of hat hair. If your hair is looking a little frizzy when you take off your hat, spray Sexy Hair Straight Smooth and Seal Aerated Anti-Frizz and Shine Spray over any frizzy areas. It’s also available in 300ml as well as the handy 50ml handbag size, perfect for taking with you!
